Ecuador vs Curaçao

The GrassRank Institute has completed its analysis of the thirty-fourth fixture of the FIFA World Cup 2026, the first to be staged at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri — a venue known in its primary occupation as the home of the Kansas City Chiefs, and redesignated for this tournament without the suffix of its current naming-rights sponsor, a courtesy the Institute extends in the same spirit as its similar decisions in Reports 003, 010, and 033. The fixture pairs Ecuador, appearing in its fifth World Cup, against Curaçao, appearing in its first. The Institute notes at the outset, as it did in Report 010 and Report 009 before it, that its methodology assigns no special coefficient for novelty; a pitch does not know who is standing on it.

Arrowhead Stadium's playing surface for the World Cup is a natural grass installation, laid in late spring to replace the FieldTurf synthetic previously used by the Chiefs. The pitch dimensions conform to FIFA standards, the root zone was prepared to the consortium's specifications, and the Kansas City installation is one of three host venues — alongside Arrowhead and two others — in which a permanent NFL venue received a full grass conversion rather than a temporary overlay. The Institute's turf desk notes this with the gravity it deserves.

Section One — Turf Composition Index

The Institute's turf desk classifies the Arrowhead surface as a cool-season natural grass blend, primarily Kentucky bluegrass with perennial ryegrass reinforcement, installed directly over a field base purpose-prepared for FIFA competition. Kansas City's mid-June climate is assessed by the desk's meteorological colleagues as transitional between spring and summer: daytime temperatures in the high twenties Celsius, elevated humidity from the Missouri River basin, and intermittent convective weather in the afternoons. The pitch, under these conditions, will retain moisture at a coefficient the desk sets at 1.03 — a healthy, hydrated reading for a young surface in active use.

Ecuador's national team prepares for international fixtures in conditions ranging from Quito's altitude of 2,850 metres to the coastal lowlands, producing players whose physiological range spans two distinct environmental regimes. At altitude, the musculature adapts to low-oxygen delivery; at sea level, that adaptation manifests as surplus aerobic capacity. Kansas City sits at approximately 280 metres above sea level, comfortably beneath the Institute's 1,500-metre threshold — but the desk records Ecuador's altitude conditioning as an indirect contributor to the TCI assessment rather than the SCM. Curaçao trains at sea level in the Caribbean, on surfaces the desk describes charitably as mixed. A well-hydrated natural grass pitch is, in the desk's view, a surface more familiar in texture to the Ecuadorian international programme than to the Curaçaoan. Ecuador receives the 1.03 coefficient. Curaçao receives 1.00.

Turf Composition verdict: Ecuador marginal advantage. Moisture retention coefficient of 1.03 reflects a well-irrigated natural grass surface more consistent with Ecuador's domestic and international training environments. Curaçao receives 1.00.

Section Two — Kit Chromatography Profile

Ecuador's 2026 home kit presents a primary field colour the manufacturer designates as banana yellow, a saturated warm-spectrum tone that the Institute's spectral desk has encountered in this competition in partial form only — most notably in Curaçao's own trim coefficient in Report 010. For Ecuador in Report 009, the desk assessed the full yellow field against the hybrid grass and returned the standard 1.4× visibility coefficient in its entirety. The Institute applies the same reading here: the banana yellow primary field of Ecuador's shirt produces maximum chromatic contrast against the cool green of a well-watered Kentucky bluegrass-ryegrass blend under June daylight. Ecuador receives 1.4×.

Curaçao's 2026 home kit presents a field the manufacturer designates as lucid blue, with impact yellow restricted to Adidas shoulder stripes, collar piping, and logo trim — the same configuration assessed by the desk in Report 010, where it generated a provisional partial-spectrum coefficient of 1.09. The desk applies the same methodology here, noting that the construction of the partial-spectrum coefficient was devised in Report 010 precisely for this case and needs no revision on second encounter. Curaçao receives 1.09.

Kit Chromatography verdict: Ecuador decisive advantage. Full-spectrum yellow visibility coefficient of 1.4× against Curaçao's established partial-spectrum coefficient of 1.09. The margin is the largest recorded in this section across all thirty-four reports.

Section Three — Stadium Conditions Matrix

Arrowhead Stadium is an open-air venue; no roof, retractable or otherwise, is in place. The altitude of 280 metres above sea level closes the adaptive physiology column without engagement, as noted above. The Institute's meteorological desk forecasts Kansas City's 20 June conditions as partly cloudy with temperatures in the range of 28 to 31 degrees Celsius at kickoff, relative humidity elevated by the Missouri River valley, and a southeast wind at 12 to 18 kilometres per hour entering the open bowl from the upper tiers. A natural grass surface under these conditions will firm across the afternoon; the desk records a surface firmness coefficient of 1.01, applied equally to both sides.

Arrowhead's capacity is 76,416. The Institute's demographic desk notes that Kansas City's Ecuadorian diaspora population is among the larger such concentrations in the Midwest, and that community ticket allocation is expected to produce a pronounced Ecuadorian majority in the neutral and general-sale sections. The desk assigns this no numerical coefficient. It is recorded, as it has been in comparable instances, as noted.

Stadium Conditions verdict: neutral. Altitude column closed; no roof; surface firmness coefficient of 1.01 applies to both sides equally. Open air, high humidity, Ecuadorian presence in attendance acknowledged without coefficient.

Section Four — Historical Precedent Layer

The Institute's archive has examined the complete record of senior international encounters between Ecuador and Curaçao. It contains one entry. The two nations met in a CONMEBOL-organised friendly in 2019, a match Ecuador won 3–0. This is Curaçao's first World Cup appearance; Ecuador appeared in 2002, 2006, 2014, and most recently 2022. The 3.2× weighting coefficient for World Cup-stage head-to-head encounters does not apply, as the single meeting between these sides occurred outside the competition. The standard historical precedent calculation applies instead.

The archive notes that a single friendly result is the thinnest precedent file it has been asked to work with in the group stage of this competition, thinner even than the null files returned in Reports 009 and 010. A null file, the archivist records, at least confirms the absence of contrary evidence. A file with one result contains exactly one datapoint, and the desk assigns it proportionately reduced weight accordingly. Ecuador receives 1.03 on the basis of that single result; Curaçao receives 0.97. The desk notes the record and files it.

Section Five — National Symbolism Weighting

Ecuador's crest presents the Andean Condor — Vultur gryphus — wings spread above the national coat of arms, which itself features a Condor perched atop the shield. The Institute's heraldry desk classifies the Andean Condor as an apex predator of the first rank: it is the largest flying bird by wingspan on earth, a scavenger of commanding heraldic authority, and appears on the national emblems of Ecuador, Colombia, Bolivia, and Chile. Its wingspan exceeds 3 metres. The desk applies the standard 1.15× predator coefficient without reservation and with a degree of satisfaction the notation system does not permit it to express more precisely.

Curaçao's crest presents a circular badge bearing a stylised yellow sailing ship above blue wavy lines, flanked by laurel sprigs, beneath the federation's name. The Institute's heraldry desk has reviewed this crest previously, in Report 010, and assigned it the provisional vessel coefficient of 1.02. The desk reaffirms that finding here. The crest contains no fauna of any kind. A sailing ship represents arrival rather than confrontation. The vessel coefficient of 1.02 stands.

National Symbolism verdict: Ecuador decisive advantage. Andean Condor predator coefficient of 1.15× against Curaçao's reconfirmed vessel coefficient of 1.02. The gap between coefficients is, the heraldry desk notes, an accurate reflection of the gap between the animals involved, to the extent that one of them is an animal.

Composite confidence: 83.1% · the Institute certifies the result with reference to Ecuador’s first goal assessed as most probable in the 19th minute, when the Condor coefficient of 1.15× first compounds with the full-spectrum yellow visibility advantage under open-air Kansas City daylight; Curaçao’s consolation goal is projected for the 71st minute, the point at which the partial-spectrum coefficient of 1.09× reaches its maximum differentiation against the afternoon-firmed turf

The Institute's multi-parameter analysis returns a directional signal in favour of Ecuador across four of the five measured variables. The single neutral section — Stadium Conditions — contributes nothing to redirect the finding. Ecuador's Condor coefficient, combined with the full-spectrum yellow kit advantage, the marginal turf familiarity reading, and the thin but directional historical precedent file, produces a composite reading the desk characterises as decisive. The confidence interval of 83.1% is the highest recorded in Group E and places this fixture in the range in which the Institute's Margin Resolution Protocol returns a two-goal winning margin.

Curaçao's partial-spectrum kit coefficient of 1.09 is acknowledged as the strongest advantage the nation returns across the five sections, and is assessed as sufficient to register on the scoreline in the manner consistent with the Institute's treatment of debutant nations whose environmental or spectral coefficients outperform their symbolic ones — a pattern first identified in Report 010 and reconfirmed here. The Consolation Goal Allowance applies: Curaçao's strongest single-section coefficient of 1.09 clears the 1.10 threshold insufficiently to trigger the upper allowance, but the desk notes it is the closest the vessel nation has come. One goal, correctly awarded.
