Colombia vs Ghana

The GrassRank Institute has completed its analysis of Match 87, Round of 32. Colombia enter as winners of Group K, unbeaten across three fixtures. Ghana enter as one of the tournament’s best third-place qualifiers, advancing from Group L behind England and Croatia. The archive records no prior meeting between these two federations, at any level, in either nation’s history — a fact the Institute finds neither troubling nor remarkable, merely true.

As a knockout fixture, this report is certified under the Institute’s Draw Protocol by Competition Stage: a result was required, and one was reached without recourse to extra time or penalties.

Section One — Turf Composition Index

Arrowhead Stadium’s playing surface was rebuilt ahead of the tournament: Bermudagrass over a twelve-inch sand base, with gravel-and-pipe drainage and a subsurface air system maintaining root-zone stability. The Institute’s moisture retention coefficient reads 1.03 — comfortably above the 0.95 threshold. The Total Goal Dampener is not engaged on turf grounds.

A true, well-drained surface rewards sustained possession over direct, high-tempo play. The Institute’s finding leans, marginally, toward the side built to keep the ball.

Turf Composition verdict: Colombia advantage, marginally held.

Section Two — Kit Chromatography Profile

Colombia’s home strip returns a spectral reading of pure, saturated yellow. The Institute’s standard 1.40× visibility coefficient engages in full — the highest reading available under current methodology.

Ghana’s white home kit carries a secondary finding: intersecting red, yellow, and green lines drawn from Kente cloth traditions, producing a chromatographic complexity coefficient of 1.11×. A genuine reading, but a secondary one — the visibility coefficient remains the section’s primary signal, and it accrues to Colombia.

Kit Chromatography verdict: Colombia — Visibility Coefficient 1.40×. Ghana noted for chromatographic complexity at 1.11×.

Section Three — Stadium Conditions Matrix

Arrowhead Stadium sits at approximately 266 metres above sea level in Kansas City — well below the Institute’s 1,500-metre adaptive physiology threshold. No altitude factor applies to either side.

The stadium is fully open-air, with no roof configuration of any kind. The Total Goal Dampener is not engaged on roof grounds either. With Section One’s moisture reading also clear, total goals for this fixture carry no institutional ceiling.

Stadium Conditions verdict: Open Air — Conditions Neutral.

Section Four — Historical Precedent Layer

The archive records no prior meeting between these federations — competitive or friendly, at any level, at any tournament. Match 87 is the first encounter in either nation’s history. The Institute’s 3.2× World Cup–stage weighting protocol has no precedent to engage.

The Institute does not invent precedent. It records its absence.

Historical Precedent verdict: No Data — Section Filed and Sealed. Neither side receives a directional finding.

Section Five — National Symbolism Weighting

Colombia’s national coat of arms is crowned by an Andean condor, wings spread, an olive crown held in its beak — a confirmed extant apex predator. The Institute’s 1.15× coefficient is engaged in full.

Ghana’s crest carries the Black Star of Africa, a symbol of Pan-African emancipation dating to the nation’s 1957 independence — luminous, historic, but celestial rather than biological. The apex-predator coefficient does not engage.

National Symbolism verdict: Colombia — Apex Predator 1.15×. The section’s sole directional finding, and it accrues to the favourite.

Section Six — Group Stage Momentum Index

Colombia won Group K unbeaten: three–one over Uzbekistan, one–nil over DR Congo, a goalless draw with Portugal. Four goals for, one against — a goal-difference gap of plus three.

Ghana finished third in Group L: a one–nil win over Panama, a goalless draw with England, a one–two loss to Croatia. A credible campaign, and one of the tournament’s stronger third-place qualifications — but an uneven one, with a goal difference of zero.

Momentum verdict: Colombia — Group Stage Dominance Confirmed. An unbeaten campaign outweighs a credible but uneven path to the knockout round.

Section Seven — Elimination Readiness Coefficient

Colombia arrive with recent knockout pedigree — Round of 16 appearances in both 2014 and 2018 — and no disciplinary suspensions entering this fixture.

Ghana’s deepest World Cup run remains the 2010 quarterfinal, still the best result recorded by any African nation at the tournament — genuine pedigree, though sixteen years removed from the current squad.

Readiness verdict: Colombia — Elimination Readiness Certified. Recency of knockout experience carries the section.

Colombia 3 – Ghana 1
Composite confidence: 82.1% · Third goal assessed as most probable in the seventy-fourth minute, a low strike from just outside the box

The Institute’s multi-parameter analysis returns a consistent directional signal in favour of Colombia. Four of seven sections carry a directional finding for Colombia — Kit Chromatography, National Symbolism, Group Stage Momentum, and Elimination Readiness — against a single secondary reading for Ghana in Kit Chromatography’s complexity coefficient. No Total Goal Dampener applies. The Consolation Goal Allowance is engaged at Ghana’s 1.11× threshold, certifying their goal.

Ghana’s campaign is acknowledged and factored: an unbeaten group-stage draw with England, a narrow loss to Croatia, and a historic quarterfinal in the nation’s past. None of it alters the directional conclusion. The record is respected. The record does not advance the ball.

This report has been reviewed by the Institute’s standing Panel of Three. It is published without reservation.
